At the start of each new year, it's the same thing: we're all looking for a fresh start. For me, that means solid habits, a balanced diet, quality sleep and new training goals (yes, even after nearly 20 years!). But sometimes, despite our best intentions, it can be difficult to meet all our needs with our lifestyle alone. That's where some well-chosen supplements can really make a difference!
As a trainer and kinesiologist, I've had the chance to test and analyze a ton of supplements over the years, and over the fashions... Believe me, not everything is created equal, and that's why I like to share with my customers my personal choices, products that I recommend 100% to optimize their health and results.
Today, I'm sharing my three favorites that I personally use and recommend to my customers, as basic supplements to optimize their health.
1. A good multivitamin: your insurance policy
We can't stress it enough: there's no substitute for a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, quality proteins, micronutrients and good fats. However, even with a balanced diet, some days can be less than perfect. A multivitamin is a bit like health insurance to make sure your body isn't lacking anything.
Why do I recommend it?
- It makes up for the little deficiencies that can accumulate over time.
- It supports your immune system, especially in winter.
- It can help maintain your overall energy level.
👉 My advice: Take your multivitamin in the morning with a meal. It maximizes absorption and is easier to incorporate into your routine.
2. Omega-3s: allies for much more than fat loss
Few people consume the recommended 2-3 servings of oily fish per week, which is why omega-3s are often needed in supplement form. These fatty acids play a super-important role in the body's proper functioning, including regulating inflammation and supporting cellular health.
Why incorporate them into your routine?
- They promote fat loss by making cell membranes more receptive to nutrients.
- They help regulateinflammationwhich is essential for post-workout recovery and the relief of joint pain.
- They support cognitive healthby improving memory, concentration and even mood.
👉 My advice: Choose an omega-3 supplement containing a good ratio of EPA and DHA, ideally 1 to 3 grams a day, to reap the full benefits.
3. Vitamin D: essential for the winter months
In Quebec, where sunny days are rare in winter, vitamin D is a must. a must-have. It's one of the simplest yet most effective supplements you can add to your routine (it's a must !)
What it does:
- Increases your energy and improves your mood
- It boosts your immune system, essential for staying fit all winter long.
- Contributes to muscle and bone health (very important)
👉 My advice: Have your vitamin D levels checked at every opportunity. If you're deficient, a supplement can make all the difference.
For me, these three supplements are intelligent supplementsbut they don't replace the basics. A balanced diet, good sleep and regular physical activity remain the pillars of good health. The supplements simply fill in the gaps and optimize what you're already doing well.
If you're looking to maximize your results or simply feel better every day, these products are a good place to start. But remember: every person is unique, so take the time to listen to your body, adjust your routine and consult a professional if you have any questions.
