Summer is often synonymous with patios, barbecues, travel, and a bit more dietary indulgence. You might have had an extra drink or two, or eaten a little less balanced than usual. That doesn't make you a bad person; it's all part of a certain life balance.
But now that fall is here, the question becomes: how do we get back on track, intelligently?
Let's keep things simple
The classic reflex is to say "new season, new start" and dive headfirst into an ultra-strict routine. Getting back on track isn't a bad idea in itself, but you need to approach it smartly, not excessively.
Before you even pull out a calculator to count calories or macros, there's a much simpler and more effective step: revisiting the composition of your plates.
The balanced plate method
No complicated calculations are needed to start eating well again. Just make sure each plate contains these three elements:
1. A portion of protein
Plant-based or animal, protein is the foundation of a balanced diet. Whether it's chicken, fish, legumes, tofu, or eggs, the important thing is to include it in every meal.
2. A portion of fruits or vegetables
They provide the essential vitamins and fiber your body needs. A portion of vegetables or fruits with each meal helps you get these essential nutrients.
3. A portion of energy
Here, you have two options:
- Carbohydrates: bread, pasta, potatoes, rice
- Fats: oils, nuts, avocado
Both options provide the energy your body needs daily—the important thing is to have a portion of one on your plate.
A simple foundation to get back on track
By building your meals around these three pillars—protein, fruits/vegetables, and energy—you'll start the new season on the right foot, without complexity or guilt.
No need to calculate everything from day one. Start with this simple foundation, and the rest will follow naturally.
