La digestion comme fondation d’une reprise réussie

Digestion as the foundation of a successful recovery

Dec 23, 2025Félix Daigle

Every year, it's the same thing. January arrives, we want to get back into training, eat better, and regain our energy. Yet, for many people, getting back into it is harder than expected. Fatigue, bloating, discomfort, and so-so motivation...

Very often, the problem isn't the training. It's not even the motivation.
That's what happens upstream.
Hint: digestion ;).

Why digestion is often disrupted in January

After the holidays, the digestive system has undergone quite a few changes . Dietary shifts, alcohol, heavier meals (aka overindulging), different schedules, sometimes a quick return to supplements and training. Add to all that a cocktail of stress, fatigue, and lack of recovery.

All of this requires adaptation. When this transition is too abrupt, digestion can suffer . When digestion is impaired, the body assimilates food less effectively… This is often when energy levels begin to drop.

Digestion and energy go together

A large part of your energy, both physical and mental, depends directly on your gut. We often forget that eating more doesn't necessarily mean having more energy. What really matters is what the body is able to absorb.

If digestion is inefficient, even a “perfect” diet will yield mediocre results.

When someone tells me they have heartburn, bloating, or frequent digestive discomfort, it's not just a local issue. It often means that proteins, carbohydrates, and fats aren't being digested as well. When nutrients aren't absorbed properly, the body functions at a slower pace.

Less energy.
Less comfort.
Less consistency in training.

The microbiota and the role of probiotics

Inside your gut, there is a balance between the good and the not-so-good.
bacteria. When this balance is disrupted , digestion becomes more difficult and energy often takes a hit .

This is where probiotics can really help , especially during a change of
routine like the one in January. They help to rebalance the intestinal flora, improve digestion and support overall energy.

It's not a magic solution, but it's an excellent foundation for getting back on track.

Fiber and digestive enzymes: simple but effective tools

However, probiotics need a favorable environment to function properly.

Fiber , found in fruits and vegetables, fuels beneficial bacteria . It helps them grow and do their job better. The important thing is to introduce it gradually .

Digestive enzymes , on the other hand, are particularly useful during meals that are more
hearty. They help to better break down food and reduce heaviness after meals , especially after a period like the holidays.

It's also important to remember that a large part of digestion depends on stomach acidity and enzyme production. After a period of excess and rapid changes, these mechanisms may be less efficient for a while.

Basically, a simple and realistic approach is to support the digestive system rather than forcing it:

Use digestive enzymes with heavier meals, ideally about 15 minutes before eating.

ATP LAB - Enzymatic Control 180 capsules Allmax - Digestive Enzymes 90 capsules.

Gradually increase your fiber intake , making sure to drink enough water to avoid constipation.

XPN - Complex Fibers 500g

Incorporate a probiotic consistently , taking the time to choose a quality product that suits you.

 Nova Pharma - Probio - 60 capsules

Taking care of your digestion is often the best way to start taking care of yourself again before diving into intensive training. By improving nutrient absorption, you ultimately improve energy, comfort, and consistency during your workouts!

In January, instead of always doing more, start by better digesting what you
Consume . The rest will follow much more naturally.

Happy New Year to all!
